On Saturday morning however there was nothing normal about what unfolded in Las Vegas as one fighter was forced to step up to the plate.
DeAndre Ware was ready to weigh-in for Top Rank’s latest event as he went through a medical check when Top Rank co-ordinator Pete Susens collapsed.
Ware, a firefighter, immediately jumped into action and began giving Susens chest compressions.
After a few minutes the EMTs arrived on the scene and took over from Ware who gave them a report on what had unfolded before he left the stage.
“I’m here for my fight but I had to put EMS skills to work and do some cpr. Happy to say the guy was talking a bit and was alert headed to the hospital. I’m thankful! I feel I saved a life,” Ware tweeted afterwards.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Ware said he knew Susens was in trouble straight away.
“His skin was pale, his pupils were dilated,” he said.
The fast-acting Ware has received widespread praise for jumping in and helping save Susens’ life.
“DeAndre Ware, no matter what happens in his bout tomorrow night, he’s my fighter of the year … My hats off to him,” ESPN’s Steve Kim wrote.
“Incredible story. DeAndre Ware is truly a hero,” Mediaite’s Joe DePaolo wrote.
“Incredible story. Undercard boxer — who is also a firefighter — sees an official collapse before a weigh-in. Saves the man’s life. Fair play to DeAndre Ware,” Irish Sun Sport’s Kevin Byrne wrote.
